Hull KR captain Joel Tomkins leaves Super League club

Hull KR captain Joel Tomkins has abandoned just two years to the club.
The Super League club produced the surprise statement five days after securing their top-flight status, saying they allowed England and the Wigan a release on compassionate grounds.
Tomkins joined Rovers from June 2018 following his exit from Wigan and made 35 appearances.
Hull KR coach Tony Smith said:”Joel has requested the club for a launch on compassionate grounds and we have accepted.
“Joel and I have a excellent relationship and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with one another.
“Everybody at the club want to wish him all the very best of luck for the future and thank him for his time, efforts and leadership whilst at Rovers.”
After joining Rovers on a short term contract, an expansion that was expected to run before the end of 2021 was signed by Tomkins and he had been chosen with a ballot of his team-mates as captain for 2019, taking over from Shaun Lunt.
Tomkins, whose second move is not yet understood, stated:”I want to thank each of the players, fans and staff of Hull KR to their support throughout my time at the club.
“I would like to thank (proprietor ) Neil Hudgell and Tony Smith for realizing my position and accepting my request to be released.
“I feel that now is the perfect time for me to move on and take a look at the next phase of my career.
“I have enjoyed working with Tony and really believe he’s the right person to carry this club to another level. I wish the team the best of luck for your future.”
Tomkins, who also missed the ast game of the club through suspension, becomes the seventh player since Smith prepares to rebuild the team after their shave with relegation to leave the club.
Danny McGuire has retired and will take up an off-field part with the club, who also announced the departure of Josh Drinkwater, Chris Atkin and James Greenwood per month past.
They have since been followed by Ryan Shaw, who’s switched codes with Yorkshire Carnegie, also Danny Addy.
Even though the club are thought to have lined up with a host of fresh faces, including former New Zealand Shaun Kenny-Dowall dean Hadley and Jez Litten are the confirmed signings for next season.
